July 22, 2015: TesTrac.com Launches First-Ever Simulation Test Items Burnsville, Minn. – TesTrac.com, Ltd, a world leader in online testing, announces a new development in online testing: audio and video responses. TesTrac.com believes it is the only Internet-based testing company offering this kind of question and answer type. “This is an unprecedented development,” says TesTrac.com president Doug Odell. “This lets our clients get even more creative in how they develop questions and collect responses.” The question type presents the test-taker with a question or scenario, then TesTrac Online records the candidate’s answer, either in audio or in audio and visual both. For instance, to test someone’s translation skill, the test can show or play something in the original language, and then the test-taker can deliver an answer out loud, just as if they were translating between speakers in real life. This answer can be captured in video and audio or in audio only, then reviewed and scored by the test administrator.
“This is a question and answer
type we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” says Doug Odell. “For a long
time it was only possible within a closed environment,” in which the test
administrator and test taker were on the same network. But audio/video
responses are now possible over the open Internet because certain browsers
are allowing WAV file uploads. “Right now, this only works with Firefox
and Chrome,” says Doug Odell of two very commonly used browsers. “You
can’t do this in Safari or Internet Explorer, but when those browsers
support the capability, we’ll be ready for them.” The new question/answer
type is expected to have a large impact for certain specific industries,
